Computational Science & Engineering

Computational Science & Engineering (CSE) is concerned with constructing mathematical models and quantitative analysis techniques using computers to analyze and solve problems in science and engineering.   The knowledge gained through CSE differs from understanding achieved through traditional science and engineering, which uses theory and laboratory experiment.  CSE is therefore now called the third pillar of science [President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee 2005], next to theory and experiment.  It can be used to construct numerical simulation to understand past events, predict future events, fit models to data and analyze data.
