Comprehensive Exam

The objective of the comprehensive examination is to assess depth and breadth of knowledge in the emphasis area and readiness to undertake dissertation research. The comprehensive examination includes a written portion and an optional oral portion. The need for the oral portion is determined by the supervisory committee.

The written portion consists of written responses to a series of questions from three topical areas: (1) CS 521 Design and Analysis of Algorithms or CS 561 Theory of Computation, (2) CS 554 Advanced Operating Systems, and (3) CS 573 Advanced Software Engineering.
